Am I eligible to sell alcohol?
First, you should verify you are eligible to sell alcohol in your state. This will depend on the volume of alcohol you plan to sell, whether you are a professional licensee, and the type of alcohol. Liquor licenses are usually granted to people who own restaurants, hotels, or grocery stores. These licenses can also be obtained by people who manufacture alcoholic beverages or serve as an agent for one of these establishments. If you are not in any of those categories, then there’s a good chance that you won’t be able to obtain a liquor license for your small business. This is where you will send in all of your tax information and paperwork related to the sale of alcohol. You should also think about advertising that your business is now selling alcohol to customers.
After you have your license, you are free to sell alcohol person-to-person. Keep in mind, however, that the law varies by state.
